Women's All Around

Women's all around starts soon.

Men's All Around

Kohei Uchimura was golden in the all around in Rotterdam, winning his second straight world title.

The placements at the top were-
1. Kohei Uchimura (Japan)
2. Philip Boy (Germany)
3. Johathan Horton (USA)
4. Mykola Kusenkov (Russia)
5. Daniel Purvis (GB)
6. Lu Bo (China)

Sam Hunter of GB also put in a great performance to finish 9th.

A few surprises from NHK

With olympic medallists competing in each of the events at NHK - you would be forgiven for thinking the results were already written. Not so. Mao Asada had a dissapointing short programme and sits in 8th place after two-footing her triple axel attempt and singling her flip.




Former european champ Carolina Kostner (ITA) currently leads the ladies event ahead of Kanako Murakami (JPN) and Rachael Flatt (USA). Full results are abailable here. A number of videos are also available on Youtube here.

NHK

The Skating season has started. Olympic silver medallists Meryl Davis and Charlie White lead after the short dance in Japan . The couple skated to a collection of Walzes from La Traviata and La Boheme.

Fellow Olympic silver medallists in pairs and ladies are also competing in Japan. Pang and Tong won the short programme with ease and Mao Asada will look to dominate the ladies sp later on today.

More news from Worlds

The Chinese men won the team final today at Worlds. Silver went to Japan and Bronze to Germany. The British men finished 7th, as did the women yesterday.

Tomorrow is the all-around finals day and also a big day in skating with the first day of NHK. As I won't be in lectures I may actually get a chance to report on both of these!


One other bit of news (or hot gossip perhaps) was this piece from an article by inside gymnastics.


USA National Team Coordinator Martha Karolyi has announced that she will retire from her position following the 2012 Olympic in London. We caught up with Karolyi here and asked her, “Who do you think might be able to fulfill that role?” Here’s what she had to say…

“You are trying to squeeze it out of me? Yes? (Laughs) Well I don’t know, but my personal opinion is that Valeri (Liukin) definitely would be a good person.”

Well- if he want's the job, there aren't many who would deny him it. Valeri and the team at WOGA have produced an impressive stream of olympic and world class gymnasts. Not least his daughter Nastia and Rebecca Bross who will try to win her first world all-around title tomorrow evening.
